Friday evening, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Bronson Arroyo will face the San Diego Padres and Andrew Cashner.  Arroyo will make his 6th start as Cashner makes his 7th. 

Bronson Arroyo pitched to a no decision in his last start despite a solid 6.1 inning effort where he allowed just 2 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Without the decision, Arroyo’s record stayed at 1 – 2 but his ERA fell to 7.77.  Last season, Arroyo was 14 – 12 with a 3.79 ERA in 32 starts for the Cincinnati Reds.

In 2013, Arroyo won his only start against the Padres after allowing just a run (on a solo homer) on 4 hits in 7 innings.    Arroyo will probably keep an eye on San Diego’s Xavier Nady.  Nady is batting .292 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs against Arroyo. 

Andrew Cashner took his second straight loss after giving up 4 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings with a walk and 5 strikeouts.  The loss dropped Cashner to 2 – 3 with an ERA of 2.68.  Last season, Cashner was 10 – 9 with an ERA of 3.09 in 26 starts and 5 relief appearances.

In 2013, Cashner was 2 – 0 in his 2 starts against the Diamondbacks.  But he gave up 7 runs and 13 hits (including 3 homers) in just 12 innings.   And Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt will more than likely be looking forward to facing Cashner.  Goldschmidt is 3 of 6 with a home run and 3 RBIs against the right-hander.
