The Knicks have covered just 3 of 15 as an underdog of less than six to a favorite. Meanwhile, the Wizards are 21-8 ATS on the road off a home loss under Randy Wittman. Analysis: I am not spending a lot of time telling you why we have Rice winning this game at a High Rate since much of what we do we don't talk about too much as that would diminish our edge that we have at the books. What I will say is that we have the Owls winning here by just over a touchdown and much of that is based on the mindset of these two teams. It's just another Bowl Game for Fresno who often gets to play another game but it's not for the Rice Program who save for trips to La Tech and Marshall handled all of their opponents at the end of the season. They do come into this game in better health and this is their 3rd straight Bowl Appearance so they have been there and done that. They were manhandled last year in the Liberty Bowl playing a much better Mississippi State Team and the match-ups there were obvious. The QB is a good one and he is going to cause problems for Fresno which has been torched often in the secondary and let's not forget that they also have a number of suspensions for this game on defense. RB Waller is likely to play but he will not be 100% in this game. You can always get an idea of who is here to play and who is not and the Owls have spent much more time on the Islands preparing for this game while Fresno has enjoyed the experience. We simply love Rice to perform well and be more prepared...

Central Michigan vs W. Kentucky

Pick: Central Michigan +4 - Results WON

Analysis: I'm taking the points with Central Michigan on Wednesday. We're playing defense over offense in this one. No arguing the Hilltoppers offensive prowess, but they're absolutely horrible on the defensive side of the football. Central Michigan owned the top defense in the MAC this season in several key categories and rank 16th in the nation in total yards allowed per game. But the Chips also play a decent brand of offense led by QB Cooper Rush. And while Thomas Rawls has academic issues, Devon Spalding and Saylor Lavallii are certainly capable of picking up any slack. CMU enters on a 10-2 ATS run against defenses that allow at least 200 yards rushing per game and they're 8-1 ATS when facing defenses that allow at least 6.25 yards per carry. The Chips have out-scored those nine teams by an average of 33-17. These teams met two years ago in bowl action and Central Michigan came away with a 24-21 win as a 6-point underdog. Houston Rockets vs Portland TB

Analysis: I'm laying the points with the Rockets on Monday night. Portland is a busy team and will run into a Houston team getting to full strength and looking to atone for a postseason loss to the Blazers. Portland will be playing their third road game in four nights when this one tips off with another road game on Tuesday night in OKC. The Blazers beat San Antone to kick off the busy stretch, winning 129-119 in triple-OT. Three starters saw more than 49 minutes of playing time on Friday. Portland then came back two nights ago and showed no signs of fatigue in a blowout win over New Orleans. But I expect the situation to catch up with them here. Houston expects to have guards Alexey Shved and Corey Brewer available tonight, acquiring the two in a trade last week. Brewer should provide an instant upgrade on the defensive end. While it would be nice to have the two on the floor, we don't need them for this to be a play. Dwight Howard and James Harden will be in uniform and both are playing at a high level. Harden always does and Howard is looking for his 5th straight double-double. Bottom line: Houston has had this once circled, while Portland could be gassed. The Blazers have covered just 4 of 14 against teams playing better than .600 basketball, while Houston is on a 9-2 ATS run at home against teams playing better than .600 basketball on the road. We should note that the Rockets are also on a 4-0 ATS run in this series. I'm laying the points with the Rockets, my Main Event.

Since that time, Memphis has controlled the pace of the game, proving they are the equal of the Thunder. Now, these two teams, who know each other well, face off in Game 5 of a series tied at 2, after OKC squeezed a narrow 92-89 victory at Memphis on Saturday. That victory came courtesy of Reggie Jackson, a reserve who has scored 15 total points in the 3 previous games. But on Saturday, Jackson knocked down 32 on 11/16 shooting. OKC needed every one after blowing a 64-50 late 3rd quarter lead. Unless those numbers substantially improve, it is doubtful that OKC will either get their preferred pace or extend victory by any margin. Following the 11-13 SU start by Memphis, the Grizz have gone 41-21 SU. In that timeframe, they are recently 16-3 SU and 14-7 ATS following those 21 defeats. With Gasol and Randolph keying a powerful inside-out offense, there is no reason why the Grizz cannot remain competitive again tonight. Memphis led this series 2 games to 1before the OKC survival on Saturday. Note that any NBA road team, who led the series 2 games to 1, has won the 7 game series 82% of the time. Analysis: I passed on the last game between these two because frankly I had zero sense of what was going to happen. I was not shocked the Rockets got the victory but cannot see them duplicating that here sunday night. For one thing I really don't expect Aldridge to suffer through another tough 8 of 22 night shooting from the field. It happens to all of them at some points, look at Durant saturday night. Prime example. Stubborn fact is the Rockets are a miserable 3-9 against the number in their last dozen road contests. Going to be another electric atmosphere in Portland and I suspect the fans will depart the joint in a much more festive frame of mind this time around. I say the number is reasonable and will lay the points with the Blazers here.

Analysis: ANGELS OVER KC PLUS ( +121 )- I'm taking a shot on Joe Blanton.....as long as he does not meltdown early I think the Angel bats are hot enough to keep their modest four game winning streak going. The bats are clicking lately and there are a lot of dangerous home run hitters in this Halo line up. Mike Trout is a spark plug and has this team on getting on the right side of .500 before the All-Star break. Kendrick, Trumbo, Pujols, Hamilton and Company, still make this one of the toughest line-ups in baseball. The Angels also know pitcher Ervin Santana and should be able to take advantage of his flaws. He has been solid this season with a 2.77 ERA but the Royals are just not hitting ( except for Alex Gordon ) and this is a gut feeling that the Angels are turning the corner. The Royals have dropped ( 5 of 6 - and 12 of last 16 ).

The Dragons put in a strong effort against the Titans last week only to come away with a narrow one-point loss but there are plenty of signs from their last two games (both narrow losses) that indicates they're on the improve and they should get the win against an Eels side who came away with a bruising one-point win over the Broncos last week. That Eels win over the Broncos was based around plenty of emotion in front of their home fans but they'll struggle to back that up as they've yet to string together two good performances in a row and I don't expect they'll be anywhere near the same level of intensity this week

Josh Dugan makes his eagerly anticipated Dragons debut here and he'll be itching to make a sudden impact for the club that's thrown him an NRL lifeline and I expect he'll play a big hand for them. The Eels have won just once in the last 10 clashes between these clubs and I don't expect they'll improve on that here - take the Dragons to cover the start. NOTES:

        Lem Banker told handicappers to separate an NBA team's home stats from their visiting stats. Lem and other successful bettors, such as Bob McCune and Jack Painter, understood that it's wrong to simply count all home courts as being 'worth' a certain number of points.
        Although the average NBA home court is 'worth' about 5 points, different home courts are 'worth' more than others -- and sometimes much more.
         Currently, our own formulas indicate the Jazz should beat the average NBA tram by 10 points at home in Utah, but they figure to lose by 8 points against the average team on the road as a visitor. That's an 18-point difference.
        Our formulas show the Bobcats would lose by 14 points at home in Charlotte to the average team, but look for them to lose on the road by only 10 points.....A 4-point "home court DISadvantage" at this time.
        By separating home stats from 'away' stats we can actually handicap a game between, say, the Lakers on the road at the Lakers at home. Instead of tracking 32 different NBA teams, we're actually tracking 64 or them.

Analysis: Well here we go guys. Since the conference finals concluded and on until this years super bowl actually kicks off you will have heard opinions from every talking head on all the networks. Ex players, current players, even animals who supposedly have picked the winning side for years. Nothing comes close to bringing out the experts and novice bettors like the super bowl. I've personally observed this spectacle evolve over the years to the point it has reached now. Yes, I actually recall watching the Packers and Chiefs square off in the very first one. It was strange that day because the game was actually carried on two networks at the same time. Both CBS and NBC broadcast the game live. Okay, you guys are not here for that. I get it. I've nailed down my last four super bowl predictions so let's see if we can keep it rolling this time around. I am not going to go into a detailed analysis of this game. I polled some long time clients and they basically said, Steve, we know you do your homework. Get to the bottom line. I am going with a Triple Star release on the Ravens catching the points here. I am also going with a single star on the over, as I load this up the total sits at 47.5. I will say this, I have been as critical, or more so than most of Joe Flacco. But here he is in the big show and in doing so he has knocked off, Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. I've got to give him his due. The guy is getting solid pass protection and making big plays. I am more impressed with the road the Ravens have traveled to get here than the 49ers. I personally put more stock in wins against the Colts, at Denver and at New England than the Niner's taking down the overrated Packers and Falcons. Plus, and I my regular clients know I don't rely so heavily on trends as many handicappers. I do perform my due diligence but I don't hang my hat exclusively on trends. Now, with that being said. I did find one trend that jumped off the page at me. The stubborn fact is this guys, the team that is the higher seed in the playoffs is a miserable 1-12-2 against the number in the super bowl. Think about that. I liked the Ravens before I came across that little nugget. I personally have a feeling this will be a knock down, drag out slug fest. A very, very physical war and also anticipate a ton of flags. I do hope the zebras stick to the obvious stuff and don't nit pick. Otherwise they could drag a classic battle into the gutter. I trust the Ravens in the end to make more big plays down field. Plus, and this may appear trivial at this point but I don't trust Niner's place kicker David Akers right now. He has been basically dreadful this season and now he's appearing in the biggest game of all on the largest stage. Both clubs are exceptionally well coached and I won't even get into the whole brother vs brother thing. I am fairly certain you've heard enough on that now. I like and respect both. Now, one final note. My regular guys have heard this countless times so they are likely nodding off about now. But I preach, and preach, and preach self discipline and money management. PLEASE, just because this is the super bowl don't bet the mortgage on this. This is sports gambling guys. There are absolutely no locks or certainties. Please do not wager any more than you can afford to drop. The super bowl always attracts folks that don't typically bet on sports. If you are one of those customers, hey, step up and bet the game and enjoy it. But I implore you to keep your heads about you. Weird turnovers and just freaky things can and do happen. What might be really interesting - especially with the total going up, is to take the Giants RL, too, and just hope SF doesn't win by one - not like I haven't done it before - and if all is reasonable I may add the Indians RL, who knows.
